Phenomenal! Absolutely loved this short story; can't believe I hadn't got my hands on it before. Author Graham Dorn suffers the fate of so many great artists - he hates his greatest creation. Stuck writing detective novels starring his famous character De Meister, Dorn makes the decision to stop writing De Meister books any more.

That's until De Meister himself turns up in Dorn's life. With his existence at stake, De Meister threatens Dorn's reputation, claiming to his fiancée and agent that Dorn's works are lifted from his own diaries. Dorn has to think up his own ways to survive and get rid of De Meister - for good.

It's fun and scary and so excellently written. The ending could have been better handled - it felt a little like the author ran out of inspiration. Having said that, the casual, chatty style of the writing makes it unforgettable.
It's a fantasy story for the ages - not for nothing is Isaac Asimov considered a legend.
